Motorway Supervisor

Full Time Average 42 hours per week. (4 on 4 off working pattern, 2 days, 2-night shift- 12-hour shifts)

Salary circa, 41-44k

About the Opportunity.

Midland Expressway Limited are looking to recruit a permanent, reliable Motorway Supervisor into their Motorway Operations Team. You will join our experienced team maintaining the M6 toll road to the high standards our customers deserve.

The role will be responsible to the Motorway Supervisor Team Leader for ensuring the Motorway is maintained to the highest level in terms of usage, quality, and safety. The person will supervise motorway operatives whilst maintaining a well-motivated team. You will have a background in highways and demonstrable supervisory experience. This role is predominantly outdoors, and you will supervise a small team.

Key tasks and activities are:

· To supervise motorway operatives whilst maintaining a well-motivated team

· Ensuring operatives are wearing the correct PPE and that it is in a serviceable condition.

· Ensuring operatives receive a briefing prior to being assigned tasks.

· Ensure operatives use knowledge, experience and procedures to fully understand how to complete the task in a safe and productive manner.

· Ensuring operatives are aware or any recent changes to procedures and policies that may affect their safety and the safety of others.

· To ensure that any concerns or morale issues are dealt with in a timely manner with assistance sought from your line manager if required.

· To ensure that operatives are only assigned tasks for which they have been trained or that they are supervised by a trained and experienced person.

· To ensure operatives behave in a suitable manor.

· To be a working supervisor.

· Be proactive in the maintenance of the network and assets.

· To organise routine maintenance activities on the motorway using the appropriate plant, equipment and materials in accordance with the company Health & Safety / Quality Procedures

· To ensure all Works Orders are fully completed with accurate information and signed by the staff carrying out the works.

· To assign operatives to tasks in an efficient and productive manner.

· To ensure diaries reflect an accurate record of the tasks carried out.

· To communicate requirements for the necessary plant and equipment to carry out tasks in a timely manner.

· To feedback information/reasons should any job/task not be able to be completed.

· To supervise and carry out traffic management operations

· Ensure all paperwork is correctly completed.

· To ensure the TM equipment required is on the vehicle prior to leaving the depot.

· Ensure the TM equipment is in a serviceable condition prior to use.

· Ensure that TM is installed to drawing / procedure.

· Unless otherwise stated on the works order ensure that TM is not installed (first cone) until the specified times of 21:00 for lane closures and 20:00 for hard shoulder.

· Ensure that a TM installation sheet is completed for all closures including Hard shoulder and WLL closures.

· Ensure maintenance checks are carried out to specified timescales.

· Ensure signage is offloaded and returned neatly to the sign racks at the end of each shift.

· Any defective equipment must be repaired or quarantined,

· To supervise and carry out safety fence repairs

· Ensure all paperwork is correctly completed.

· Ensure equipment, plant and materials are available and in a suitable condition.

· Ensure that repairs are completed to specification.

· To supervise and carry out winter maintenance activities

· Ensuring that the motorway operatives know all gritting routes.

· Ensure vehicles are thoroughly washed after use and refuelled including JCB.

· To ensure stand-by staff are recorded on the office planner in a timely fashion.

· Feedback to duty officer concerning weather conditions encountered that may affect actions being carried out.

· To supervise the operation of Incident Support Units

· Ensure the ISU phones are carried by the operatives carrying out the ISU duties.

· Ensure Incident Sheets are completed for all incidents attended.

· Reporting back to management with the conditions encountered, damage to the network, nature of repairs required, liaising with emergency services. (eyes and ears on scenes)

· Ensure fuel, tyre and wheel change waivers where appropriate.

· Ensure photographs are taken at all accident scenes where asset damage is caused or not. At the very least a photograph of the vehicle(s) registration is required

· Ensure customer details are recorded at incidents resulting in asset damage.

· To supervise subcontractors working on the motorway (MOPS WORKS)

· To brief, all contractors working within your traffic management to ensure they are aware of any hazards and anyone else working in the closure.

· To give an induction to subcontractors where required – information to be provided by the project lead.

· To provide direct assistance to customers

· Attend breakdowns / lost / confused customers and offer help / advice where necessary.

· To liaise with and assist the emergency services

· Feedback accurate information gained from emergency services.

· To assist emergency services when requested unless it goes against MEL procedures.

· To ensure day-to-day plant and equipment checks are carried out to ensure safe operation and that they are readily available when required

· Ensuring all vehicle pre-use and in use sheets are completed correctly with all defects recorded accurately.

· Ensuring all plant is cleaned, re-fuelled (where applicable) and returned to its usual storage location after use.

· Ensuring any defective tools and equipment are not used and placed in the quarantine box and the defect(s) recorded in the log book.

· Ensure ISU stock is checked each shift, and any defective or missing equipment is replaced if available.

· Ensure that all defects or concerns with vehicles / equipment is fed back via the correct channels.

· Any other duties associated with this position as assigned by the Team Leaders or Duty Officers

· Carry out policies passed down a hierarchy from the level above.

· Plan short-range action-steps to carry out goals set by the level above.

· Organize the work group.

Essential skills:

· Full Driving License

· HGV C License (Class 2)
